Childrens Summer Clothes

Kids Clothes

You might ask why I'm writing about childrens summer clothes when it's snowing outside! Well, I've actually had lots of people buying summer clothes in the last few weeks as they are going on holiday soon or at Easter and they are bagging the remaining summer bargains that are still in shops.

We do have some items left from last summer and most of these are half price and some even 75% off!

We have boys swimming shorts, girls bikinis, kids sandals and childrens t-shirts left.

So don't delay, if you're going on holiday in the next few months or so, get your childrens gear now and save a fortune.

Last of the Childrens Winter Coats

Baby & Childrens Winter Coats

Well it's coming to the end of winter and the last of our childrens coats are up for grabs!

Well I say coming to the end of winter but that's a joke - as I'm writing this and looking out of the front shop window, it's like a blizzard out there - snow hooray!

Anyway, these are just a few of the styles of kids coats that we have left, although you will only find probably one of them in a certain size now. The prices are fabulous as always - the highest price we have for one of our winter coats is now £35 for a Roxy coat, £30 for a Golddigga coat but then we have £12 Babeskin coats or gillets and £9 for a baby coat.

Get them fast before they are all gone!

O'Neill Boys Hoody

Boys Clothes

This is another great bargain I managed to find from O'Neill. It's actually a men's hoody but the sizes they had were XS or Small so unless you are a very very small man, there is no chance they would fit you. The XS measures up to our Dudeskin brand at a 11/12 years and the Small to 13/14 years so perfect in our Boys Clothes section.

The designs vary slightly on each, some are completely plain, just with the O'Neill logo and some have a light design pattern on them. All the same colour, zip up and fabulous quality as you'd expect from O'Neill clothes.

Their retail price for this one was - wait for it - £75.00 - and we are offering it at only £24.00! Yet another bargain by Streetmonkeez.!

Bargain Levi Kids Clothes

Kids Clothes

After much searching around, I have now found a great designer kids clothing supplier who picks up end of line ranges from brands such as Levi, Roxy and O'Neill. This means I can pick up items as and when they have them and pass them onto my customers at bargain prices - and I do mean bargain prices!

This Levi Kids zip up top would have retailed at £45.00 but as it is end of line, I can now do this for £14.99! How amazing is that?

And don't worry, just because they are end of line doesn't mean they are seconds. All the end of lines are perfect condition, just stock left that the brand has not been able to sell to retailers.

So grab a bargain while you can.!

Cool Baby Toy Box

Baby Toys

How cool is this?!!

I was surfing the web for unique or unusual baby toys and came across this really cool baby toy box - I love it!

That said, I don't love the price at £99 - ouch! Although I love it I wouldn't pay this amount for any sort of toy box even if it was made out of gold. I guess those with enough money to waste would snap this up but alas I will not!

New Spring/Summer Baby Collection

Baby Clothes

We are pleased to advise that our first delivery of Babyface (BFC) new spring/summer 08 collection has arrived. This is the first batch from them with another due in February.

Yet again, they do not fail to disappoint! This season we have gone for baby clothes in sizes 9 months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months. We have dropped the 6 month size in this range as we found it has been the bigger sizes of Babyface baby clothes that sell better. Mums of babies age 0 - 6 months seem to prefer to still dress them in more traditional baby clothes for the first months of their lives and then move to trendy baby clothes after 6 months of age.

In this first delivery we have some fabby baby boys trousers which have adjustable waists and also roll up to 3/4 pants - so you get much more use out of the clothes. For girls we have some great baby girls leggings which are 3/4 length for spring/summer in pink/white stripe and mint/white stripe.

Take a look at our site for the full range which is already selling fast.

Joe Bloggs - Who?

Joe Bloggs is an independent kids clothes brand that is sold in many high quality department stores and small designer retail shops.

We have just managed to get hold of a selection of their items and I am really pleased at the quality of the garments. kids clothes have to be robust, especially boys clothes and these certainly live up to that.

We have 2 great long sleeve casual skater tops with collar - one is black/grey with mock sleeves and the other is blue stripe with mock sleeves. A bargain at £14.99 so come and grab one whilst they're here!

Kids Clothes - Skater Hoodies

We have now got hold of a great range of kids clothes and the latest is some really affordable boys skater hoodys at only £7.99!

Yep you read that right - at just £7.99 you can't afford not to buy this item of kids clothes for your son.

They come in both beige and navy and have skater style design and logos on them with kangaroo pockets at the front.

A definite must for any young skater boy!

Ecko Red Girls Clothes - Now In

We've at last, after a couple of years of pondering about it, now got in a small selection of Ecko Red girls clothes.

The quality is superb and just as good as the main men's or boy's Ecko range. The quality to detail is amazing and their designs are definitely unique.

At present we've just got a few different styles of girls hoodys in and I can guarantee they will fly out the shop.

Ecko is such a cool brand but I don't feel it is a well known as it should be in the UK and wish they would do some hi-visible marketing of the brand over here.

If you're not sure what it is, take a look on our site or have a look at Ecko to get the full story of their clothes.

Closing the Shop

Well we've finally put our closing down sale sign up at our childrens clothes shop!

But don't worry, we're still keeping going on our internet shop. People living locally will get free delivery by clicking the pick up option so no worries there.

So if you want a bargain, come to our closing down sale before everything goes!

Why Buy a Cot Mobile?

Nearly all new mum's buy a cot mobile but why should you buy one and what are the best type to buy?

The moderncot mobile was invented in the 1950's by Christian Flenstead with the first design being the Stork and got huge success all over the world. It is an original Denmark craft but now of course there are many many designers and models out there.

When babies are born, in the first months of their life, their eyesight doesn't focus that far so having a cot mobile to look at whilst they are lying on their back in their cot is a great way to stimulate them. You should go with the brightest colours and shapes possible. Some Mum's make the mistake of buying a mobile to match the room that they may have decorated in pale colours or beige and cream which is a popular one now and buy a mobile to match. These pale colours do nothing for baby and his sensory development will progress much quicker with the brighter coloured ones. The musical ones are a nice add on but not a necessity.

The most popular brands of cot mobiles are Mothercare, Tomy and Tiny Love to name a few.

The cot mobile is a definite good buy for any baby but ensure you follow my simple tips on getting the right one for the right reasons.

Why Choose a Moses Basket

Seems obvious but the Moses Basket name actually comes from the bible. The first moses basket was made by reeds many thousands of years ago.

Moses baskets are a must buy for any new Mum and baby nowadays. They are a great item as you can have the baby in any room you are in as they are so easy to lift around the house. They are small enough for baby to feel secure in them. In the womb, baby is in a small space and kept warm by the water. It's just the same feeling or as similar as it can get to be in a moses basket, wrapped up in blankets all comfy and warm!

There are many brands of moses baskets today but they basic designs are the same. Most are made from natural material but it is necessary to check the strength of the handles and how they are attached to avoid any accidents. Also, you should never use them for too long, around 3 months is ideal as baby can then start to roll and could fall out. They can be used on the floor and there is no absolute necessity for a stand, however having a stand makes it easier for Mum to lift baby out from a reasonable height to her.

In terms of what price you should pay - as I mentioned before, there are so many brands around such as Mothercare, Disney and Mamas and Papas and they range in price. Personally I think around £50 is the maximum you should pay for a moses basket, bearing in mind you are going to be using it for such a short space of time. Saying that, if you are going to have more children, you will get more use from it but they do not get a lot of money if you sell second-hand.

All in all, this is a must-have purchase for your new baby.

Skate Clothes - The History

I am no expert - believe me - but my understanding of the history of skate clothes purely comes from my bunch of kids who will only wear this type of clothing and they have educated me as to why it is so hip! So please don't take this as an expert view, purely my limited knowledge.

Skate clothes actually came about from surfing believe it or not! When you think about it though it makes sense as the board is similar and if you could ride a board on the waves, why not on the pavements and streets? After the sport of skateboarding took over somewhere in the 1960's the clothing manufacturers got on board (excuse the pun!) and developed a range of skateboarding clothes.

The designs started as a really basic theme with skate t-shirts but then the designers became more artistic and created a whole range of grunge styled clothing. You should all remember the really baggy skater jeans that you have seen on teenage boys riding their boards. Skateboard clothing does not represent the norm; infact anything but. Kids skate clothes particularly are slightly risky, a little offensive sometimes and often designed to cause a shock. The colours are often dark, khaki, brown and a lot of black but for a teenager that's cool - believe me!

So why are kids skate clothes so popular? As kids grow up and their hormones are kicking in, a lot of them want to be different and they can show their personality through the design of skate clothes. Not only the design, the style and material are comfortable, loose, casual and trendy.

The main skate clothing brands around now are brands like Addict, Element and DC who sell both skate shoes and skate clothes.

So, apologies to the experts but that's my limited view and knowledge of how these clothes came about.

Britain Fights EU plan for children's clothing tax

I recently read this article in The Independent - very interesting!

Three EU countries, including Britain, are threatening to veto controversial moves by the European Commission for VAT to be levied on children's clothes and shoes.

Three EU countries, including Britain, are threatening to veto controversial moves by the European Commission for VAT to be levied on children's clothes and shoes.

Finance ministers from the UK, Ireland and Luxembourg will voice their opposition at a meeting in Brussels today, one day before the Commission is scheduled to decide on the issue.

Frits Bolkestein, the European commissioner for the internal market, wants to lay down rules that simplify procedures within EU countries, which have a host of exemptions to minimum VAT rates of 15 per cent.

The issue is sensitive in the UK, which applies 17.5 per cent on most items, because the Government gave a manifesto commitment before the 2001 general election to maintain the zero rate on children's clothes and shoes.

In Ireland in 1982, a proposal by John Bruton, its Finance Minister at the time, to put VAT on children's clothes and shoes brought down the government. The current Irish Finance Minister, Charlie McCreevy, has already said that he would oppose any plan by the Commission to do the same thing.

Last night, seniorofficials in Brussels were locked in tense negotiations on whether to proceed with the plans to end zero rating on children's clothes and shoes, due to be approved tomorrow. They know that just one nation could veto the proposal.

Mr Bolkestein's officials argue that the exemption distorts the EU's internal market. They also say that zero-rated children's clothes are more expensive in the UK than in five other EU nations, including Denmark, where the tax is applied at 25 per cent. The same situation applied to children's shoes, where five other European nations, including Sweden, which applies a 25 per cent VAT rate, have cheaper products than Britain.

Commission officials say that this proves that the effect of zero rating is more than compensated for by the profit margin of the clothing companies. But that analysis is rejected by the UK, which has described the right to carry on zero rating children's clothes and shoes as one of its "red lines". One official said: "If VAT was put on children's clothes and shoes at 17.5 per cent, prices would go up."

That point will be made forcefully by Britain at today's meeting in Brussels as part of a concerted effort to dissuade the Commission from bringing forward a specific plan.

Last night an EU source said that France would be able to apply a reduced rate of VAT on restaurants, to fulfil an election pledge by President Jacques Chirac. The government in Paris argues that takeaway food is subject to a lower rate, to the disadvantage of restaurants and cafés.

Nine EU nations already have a reduced rate in some areas of the catering industry, but this is permitted because it was in operation before the most recent revision of the rules in 1992.

Paris will also be told tomorrow that it can keep its 5 per cent reduced VAT rate on pay TV services, sparing France's Canal Plus from a feared VAT rise to 19 per cent.

France would also be able to introduce lower VAT on labour intensive services such as hairdressers, bicycle or house repair, the European Union source told Reuters. The Commission decided to give a special rate to the building industry to help reduce the black market in this sector. But a request to introduce lower VAT rates on CDs was turned down.

Roxy Surfer Rosy Hodge Reclaims Her Spot On The Elite World Championship Tour

After an extremely close end to the 2007 women’s World Championship Tour of surfing, South Africa’s top women surfer Rosy Hodge is back on the coveted premier tour for the 2008 season. Initially Rosy failed to qualify, falling one place short, but due to an early retirement of a former world champion she has suddenly found herself back on the tour.

“It was my first year on the WCT, and I had a fairly good year,” said Rosy on hearing the news. “Obviously I was really disappointed not to make the cut, being only one place short of the cut-off. Still, I got lucky and I’m back on, so now I am obviously so stoked.”

“I’ve leaned a lot from my first year on the WCT and I’m delighted to be given the opportunity to get back on the tour and improve on my position,” said a cheerful Rosy. “I’m focused on working on my boards and fitness and getting some solid results in 2008.” Her first event of the year will be the Roxy Pro which takes place on the Gold Coast of Australia from February 23 to March 6. For more details on this event and on the women’s pro tour check out aspworldtour.com

Chelsea Hedges Pregnant - Leaves World Tour for 2008

Motherhood has claimed another of Australia's top surfers, with former world champion Chelsea Hedges quitting the world championship tour to give birth this year. The 2005 world champion will not tour in 2008 as she and board-shaper husband Jason are expecting their first child in June.

Hedges is the second top rated Australian surfer to quit in the past 12 months, with WA's Melanie Redman-Carr stepping off the tour last October when she revealed she too was expecting. Hedges, 24, is currently enjoying her last surf trip, holidaying on the Caroline Islands with friends including recently crowned 2007 world champion Stephanie Gilmore.

"I'm going to go and surf on a surf mat and have so much fun. I'm over the moon about the baby," Hedges told friends prior to departing. While Hedges will take the entire year off, Redman-Carr has left the door ajar for a possible return in 2008. The former world No.2 has been seeded 13th for the 2008 season, which suggests she has notified tour officials about her intent to compete this year.

Street Monkeez Childrens Clothes go Global

We are pleased to announce that Street Monkeez Childrens Clothes have now gone global.

We recently launched our website store overseas and have been inundated from customers in many corners of the world including the Falkland Islands, Malaysia and Australia! The reaction we have had from these customers is amazing and within 2 weeks of ordering have already re-ordered a selection of childrens clothes from us. It seems that many of these places abroad, the parents just cannot get the quality or style of clothes they are looking for and are willing to come to the UK and to get their clothes.

Camo Clothing for Kids

What do others think about dressing their kids in camo childrens clothes?

I'm not sure about it myself. By dressing children in this type of clothing we then pretend and say to them they are a soldier now - are we teaching them about fighting too young? Perhaps I'm just being daft!

There are really big ranges now of camouflage childrens clothes now including items such as kids camouflage action vests, kids fighter jackets and then all the accessories to go with them. I'm not sure I would like my young son to look like a soldier as I am sure he would then start role-playing and acting like one.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Girls Clothes - Or Adults?

Has anyone been into New Look recently?

I am really shocked at some of the styles and designer of their girls clothes. The styles are simply too old and they are trying to make girls as young as 8 dress in adult style clothing. What is wrong with these designers - please yet children be children for as long as they can!

I have no problem with trendy, casual and funky designs for girls clothes but you can achieve all of that without the need to product low cut, mini dresses etc.

I hope that enough Mum's will avoid buying such items, therefore forcing the designers to change their styles.

Britney's Kids Wear Paul Frank

Did anyone else see the pictures - I think they were in the magazine Now? Although the story is very very sad with Britney being taken away in an ambulance, I couldn't help but notice the picture of her young son Sean shows him in his car seat asleep wearing Paul Frank blue Julius pyjamas.

Paul Frank is a great brand whose design will never tire. I love funky kids clothes and funky childrens clothes and by the word 'funky', I mean cute, trendy, original and I think Paul Frank designs always sum that up!

Taking Care of Childrens Clothes

A lot of Mum's say to me how some brands of childrens clothes are better made than others and last a lot longer. Whilst this is true, there are many things that you can do to take care of your childrens clothes. Here are some ideas or tips:

Buy the Right Items
Try and avoid buying the wrong childrens clothes in the first place. By that I'm not necessarily talking about the quality but look out for printed on designs and logos on clothes and avoid them. Not only do you have to iron these type of clothes inside out to ensure you don't burn off the design but when these garments are washed and washed again, they will no matter how good the quality of the material, start to come off.

Read the Labels!
Although we all know we should, the number of people who try and return childrens clothes that have clearly been washed and have shrunk. It's really difficult to determine if someone has or hasn't washed them at the correct temperature but if in doubt, go down a temperature setting but always check the label as some items have to be washed inside out to retain the outer colouring.

Do Not Tumble Dry
Even though some childrens clothes do say that it is alright to tumble dry, I am really dubious about this. Many clothes do require a lot of minutes in a tumble dryer and will shrink the clothes, so avoid this at all options.

Remove Stains
If your child gets a stain on their clothes - soak it and remove it with appropraite stain remover immediately! If you leave it to dry, even for the shortest period it will end up with a stain that can never then be removed.

Well although these tips are obvious, if you actually do genuinely follow them, your childrens clothes will last longer.
