Boys Shorts

What are the cool boys wearing this year in terms of boys shorts?

Yet again, it is the surf inspired style of boys shorts that are flying off the shelves and its not just teenager boys wearing the surf styles, the younger children (or their mum's) are buying boys board shorts for their kids as young as 2. I think it's because the designs are great, the material is fantastic for washing and drying quickly and the shorts come in varying lengths and widths to suit the shape of your child. Also, for the younger kid the boys shorts have adjustable waists.

You can choose between the following styles:

1. boys board shorts
2. boys walk shorts and
3. boys long shorts

Basically the difference between them is that board shorts you can wear in the day and also in the sea, the walk shorts are for daywear and come to about knee length and the most popular for daywear and the longer length shorts or 3/4 length shorts as they are more commonly known.

Kids DC Shoes

I have looked at many different skate shoes for kids and there are a lot of brands to choose from. If however, you want quality shoes that will last, especially for boys, then DC Shoes are the only choice.

The quality of the material used is superb! My boy has had over 10 pairs of DC shoes for kids now and eve when he has grown out of them, they are still in really good shape to pass on to someone else. Every other make I have had have come apart at the seams before he has grown out of them.

The designs of the kids dc shoes vary greatly so give you a huge choice. You can get all different colours, designs and styles. They are great for kids school shoes as they do a range of plain black with a simple logo, which certainly schools in Scotland are allowing them to wear, rather than a very uncomfortable tradition black shoe.

The boys and girls range of DC shoes are particularly good as they have a piece of elastic under the tongue for great fitting and also - and I fail to understand this trend myself - elastic inside at either side for them to tuck the loose piece of their laces in as the kids nowadays don't seem to want to tie them up properly! Seriously though, DC Shoes have understood this trend but made it safe by having this design.

What is happening at NEXT?

I was searching around the other day on the internet for a gillet for my husband and decided to have a look at the online NEXT store.

I was really surprised to see that they are now selling numerous other brands and makes of clothing. Why are they doing this? Are they now having to sell other makes because their own brand is not doing very well? I have no idea but surely this is the reason as why else would one of the most well known brands of clothes store in the UK start selling other makes?

I also think it is extremely unfair to the smaller retailers who have historically been the main retailers to sell the makes of clothes that they are now selling such as Quiksilver.

However, there prices are not necessarily as good as some of the smaller online outlets for these makes which is one good thing for the independent. Also, they are not stocking the biggest range of each brand so hopefully customers will still take a look at the smaller shops. Here's hoping.

Kids Work the Latest Trends

It's not just celebs or adult girls that are wearing the latest clothing trends. Children are trying desperately to copy their idols from the fashion and celeb magazines to wear the latest must-have top or have the latest bag and shoes.

As a Mum of 3 myself and a 17 year old daughter, I know how important it is to Mum's to ensure the clothes your kids wear are suitable for their age and don't turn your little one into a mini Madonna! It is easy though to help them to keep up to date and wear trendy clothes but still ensure it reflects their age. It's not always about the individual item of clothing but how you put the items together - for example a really short pair of denim shorts is great, as long as its teamed with black tights and boots in winter and flat pumps in summer and not high heeled shoes or platforms. Wearing a lower cut hoody top is absolutely fine - just ensure you buy them a string top for underneath that has a higher straight across neckline - it works for you and will work for them.

Avoid High Street retailers where the designers just seem to make the adult girls clothes in smaller sizes. I am not keen on New Look myself as I feel they are one retailer who does exactly this, although I will say not on all their clothes. Asda is fast becoming another one. I was up there last weekend and the toddler girls clothes were ok but the older girl were just versions of the adult clothes and some, especially some of the slogans on the tees where what I would consider to be highly innappropriate.

Yes I'm biased but I am so pleased year on year with one of the brands I sell for girls clothes of Babeskin. I have not yet seen one of their items of girls clothes that has been styled inappropriately for the age of the child, yet is able to reflect todays fashions in their designs. Babeskin are a cheaper version of Roxy with not such a big range. Roxy are another brand who I feel style things appropriately for girls.

I'm not sure what's happening the last couple of weeks but to say that the retail trade is down is not what is happening here!

The shop has been so busy and to say we're not even into summer. The clothes that have been selling out fast have actually been high summer clothes like boys shorts, girls crop pants, spring weight kids hoodies and lots and lots of kids swimwear.

The range of clothes for Spring/Summer that we have received is really great. These pictures below of boys t-shirts and shorts and the girls string top and crop pants have been particularly successful. Oh and not fogetting the picture of the girls bikini and matching hat!

What's In For 2008 - Childrens Clothes

Street Monkeez do not just hap hazzardly buy any childrens clothes from any old brands or even just buy all the range from the brands we do choose. We take time to research and keep up to date on what the key trends are in both childrens and adult clothes, shoes and accessories. So, what's the trend for 2008?

Childrens Hoodies
I don't think this one will ever go out of fashion and I'll eat my words if it does. The kids hoody is staying around for 2008 and continues with both the overhead style and zip up style. More of the zip up styles are coming out for the younger child, making it easier to put on but for older boys and girls clothing, both styles are in. For girls clothing the hoodies are coming in with the always in demand 'thumbhole' in the cuff (take a look at the style below) but the new trend for 2008 is for the front v neck style to be a very low v neck, keeping the layered theme we say in 2007 with girls wearing a strap top underneath.

For boys clothes and the design of their hoodies is a little smarter. What I mean by that is there are less really large logos plastered over them and come in plain colours or small stripes with smaller logos on them. They are still in the classic colours of khaki, brown, charcoal etc with a few brighter colours nearing the summer. Kids TShirts
For girls, I'm really glad to say that the designs and styles are much more suitable for children this year and teenage girls and not for adult girls. Modern and trendy t-shirts with layered vests underneath with fabby metallic detail and still some of the smock t-shirts are available but not to the degree they were last year and this year there is a definite move to plainer prints. This one by Babeskin is a typical example of the detail and design going into the t-shirts this year.

Boys t-shirts are getting a little braver! Not so much with the colours with the same black, browns, khaki that all boys love but with the design - metallics creeping in for the boys too! A mix of crew neck and mum will be glad to know that polo's are in but not the golfing style kids polo top, more the boys surf styled polo top like this one below.

Kids Summer Clothes
The surf styled clothing ranges are another that I don't think will go away anytime soon and that is definitely the style for childrens summer clothes for 2008. Brands like Quiksilver, Roxy, Babeskin and Dudeskin are bang on trend for 2008. So for girls summer clothing you need to be buying surf shorts including boardies and cut off pants, particularly denim jeans. Bikinis have the surf styled bold patterns and the halter neck is definitely in! This halter top is going to sell out the minute we get it in - guaranteed!

Boys summer clothing is, like the girls, surf-styled, casual and relaxed. If you want to make sure your boys is happy with the clothes they buy, ensure you only buy surf brand or skate brand clothing such as Quiksilver, Dudeskin or DC clothing and shoes. Long shorts are the only shorts you should be buying for day wear but and for beach wear the only must have is boys board shorts preferably in plainer colours. These pair of day shorts by Dudeskin are the perfect option for your kid for both in the day and on the beach.

Kids Accessories
Girls love their accessories so you will always, always see more accessories for girls than boys. Very big this year and big, bold bangles - bangles came back towards the end of last year but they are even bigger this year and lots of the bold coloured plastic ones that we used to wear in our younger days! Bags, bags, bags - a girl can never have enough bags and children are getting younger and younger in their desire for a good handbag. Again the casual surf theme are strong in this area and a good buy for a childs bag. For the older girl, metallics are still in however not as plain as before with a lot of detail on them.

For boys accessories there isn't really a lot around that's any different to any other year. In other words your usual bits and pieces like keyrings, caps, belts, wallets and that's about it. The style hasn't changed that much and skull and crossbone designs continue to be a favourite.

Kids Clothes News

The latest news on kids clothes is that more people are now turning away from the fast cheap fashion of the Supermarkets, realising that the quality just isn't there and you end up spending just as much as you have to replace the clothing more frequently. This is by no means from any indepth research, just me asking my customers!

I'm not surprised though as I myself have bought a couple of boys tops from ASDA and they just fell apart or faded really quickly. I'm unsure the cost to them of their clothes but they really aren't worth the price you pay, if you want them to last.

You don't actually seem to find a lot of kids clothes news around as most brands focus on their adult ranges and I don't think the childrens clothes only brands do a lot of advertising or publication of their latest news.

Well that's the last of the stock left now in the shop and it's looking really bare! There are still some massive bargains to be had but most items I have only 1 left in one or two sizes now.

I hate this time of year when the shop looks really messy with odd sizes and garments left and can't wait for the new batch of childrens clothes to come in which is the first week in March and it can't come early enough for me.

You might ask why I'm writing about childrens summer clothes when it's snowing outside! Well, I've actually had lots of people buying summer clothes in the last few weeks as they are going on holiday soon or at Easter and they are bagging the remaining summer bargains that are still in shops.

Well it's coming to the end of winter and the last of our childrens coats are up for grabs!

Well I say coming to the end of winter but that's a joke - as I'm writing this and looking out of the front shop window, it's like a blizzard out there - snow hooray!

Anyway, these are just a few of the styles of kids coats that we have left, although you will only find probably one of them in a certain size now. The prices are fabulous as always - the highest price we have for one of our winter coats is now £35 for a Roxy coat, £30 for a Golddigga coat but then we have £12 Babeskin coats or gillets and £9 for a baby coat.

Get them fast before they are all gone!

O'Neill Boys Hoody

This is another great bargain I managed to find from O'Neill. It's actually a men's hoody but the sizes they had were XS or Small so unless you are a very very small man, there is no chance they would fit you. The XS measures up to our Dudeskin brand at a 11/12 years and the Small to 13/14 years so perfect in our Boys Clothes section.

The designs vary slightly on each, some are completely plain, just with the O'Neill logo and some have a light design pattern on them. All the same colour, zip up and fabulous quality as you'd expect from O'Neill clothes.

Their retail price for this one was - wait for it - £75.00 - and we are offering it at only £24.00! Yet another bargain by Streetmonkeez.!

Bargain Levi Kids Clothes

After much searching around, I have now found a great designer kids clothing supplier who picks up end of line ranges from brands such as Levi, Roxy and O'Neill. This means I can pick up items as and when they have them and pass them onto my customers at bargain prices - and I do mean bargain prices!

This Levi Kids zip up top would have retailed at £45.00 but as it is end of line, I can now do this for £14.99! How amazing is that?

And don't worry, just because they are end of line doesn't mean they are seconds. All the end of lines are perfect condition, just stock left that the brand has not been able to sell to retailers.

Cool Baby Toy Box

How cool is this?!!

I was surfing the web for unique or unusual baby toys and came across this really cool baby toy box - I love it!

That said, I don't love the price at £99 - ouch! Although I love it I wouldn't pay this amount for any sort of toy box even if it was made out of gold. I guess those with enough money to waste would snap this up but alas I will not!

New Spring/Summer Baby Collection

We are pleased to advise that our first delivery of Babyface (BFC) new spring/summer 08 collection has arrived. This is the first batch from them with another due in February.

Yet again, they do not fail to disappoint! This season we have gone for baby clothes in sizes 9 months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months. We have dropped the 6 month size in this range as we found it has been the bigger sizes of Babyface baby clothes that sell better. Mums of babies age 0 - 6 months seem to prefer to still dress them in more traditional baby clothes for the first months of their lives and then move to trendy baby clothes after 6 months of age.

In this first delivery we have some fabby baby boys trousers which have adjustable waists and also roll up to 3/4 pants - so you get much more use out of the clothes. For girls we have some great baby girls leggings which are 3/4 length for spring/summer in pink/white stripe and mint/white stripe.

Our range of girls clothes is what todays girls want to wear. We offer kids clothes for girls up to the age of 16 but then a selection of adult clothes that are sized and suitable for the teenage girl.
