New Spring/Summer Baby Collection

Baby Clothes

We are pleased to advise that our first delivery of Babyface (BFC) new spring/summer 08 collection has arrived. This is the first batch from them with another due in February.

Yet again, they do not fail to disappoint! This season we have gone for baby clothes in sizes 9 months, 12 months, 18 months and 24 months. We have dropped the 6 month size in this range as we found it has been the bigger sizes of Babyface baby clothes that sell better. Mums of babies age 0 - 6 months seem to prefer to still dress them in more traditional baby clothes for the first months of their lives and then move to trendy baby clothes after 6 months of age.

In this first delivery we have some fabby baby boys trousers which have adjustable waists and also roll up to 3/4 pants - so you get much more use out of the clothes. For girls we have some great baby girls leggings which are 3/4 length for spring/summer in pink/white stripe and mint/white stripe.

Take a look at our site for the full range which is already selling fast.

Cute Baby Clothes

What is it people want when they say they want to buy some cute baby clothes? What do they mean by 'cute'?

Do the baby clothes have to have a picture of a little bunny or a puppy or something like that? Do they have to have a slogan on the top that is funny? Well, my opinion is that it could be all of these and something different but when you see the child in it, it makes you go 'aaahhh' - and that is simply it!

Cute baby clothes are simply something individual that you like - that you personally think your baby looks cute in. It doesn't have to be expensive, fluffy, cutey design or anything like that - purely that you like it!

So if you're buying a present for someone else - if you like it, it's a fair bet that you've got it right and bought some cute baby clothes.

BFC (Babyface) Baby Clothes - Sizing

by Tracie Murray

BFC or Babyface as it is more widely known is the main brand of baby clothes that I sell in my shop but I do get a lot of queries on the right size to buy.

I stock the range from ages 6 months - 2 years and my advice is that this brands clothing is generous in its sizing, compared to other baby clothes brands. For example, the age 2 year old top - I still had my son in this size until he was 2 1/2 and he is of an average 2 year old size.

I would recommend with their tops that you are ok to get the actual size your baby is, as you can always roll up the sleeves if they are a bit long. Where trousers are concerned I would possibly go down a size as they are very generously made. They do have adjustable waist but some of the designs on the baby trousers mean it would not look right to roll them up at the bottom, so I would go down a size.

Hope this helps.

What Size of Clothes to Buy for Newborn Babies

by Tracie Murray

I get a lot of customers in the shop who are really undecided over what size of baby clothes they should buy for a newborn baby.

There are a few things I believe you should consider before you decide which size to buy:-

1. Do the family have any other children of the same sex where they have probably kept some baby clothes to hand down?

2. Are you aware whether the mother has been buying and stocking up on first size baby ready for their new arrival?

3. How heavy was the baby at birth?

Only then can you really decide what size of clothing is best to buy. If they do have other children and hand me downs, then I would suggest the next size up and buying a nice outfit would be ideal. If the mother has stock piled baby clothes for when it is born, then again I would get the next size up or even the size after that.

Depending on the baby's birth weight, if it was a smaller weight, I would purchase a newborn outfit as a lot of Mums actually buy the next size up of baby clothes, thinking that they will get a lot of gifts for newborn size when it is born.

And after that if you're still not sure, then ask them - they won't mind and that way they will get what they want.

Zip Zap Baby Clothes Review

by Tracie Murray

I have been selling Zip Zap baby clothes now for 3 seasons and I like to complete a review of brands after I have had a good chance to test them in the shop.

Zip Zap produce an extremely large range of baby clothes that you may not be aware of. They have what I would call their basic baby clothes range which consist of vests, bodysuits, playsuits, babygrows and little booties. This range generally comes in the traditional pink, blue, white, cream etc and is very cute in appearance - typically baby looking.

Their next range then develops into including more outfits for baby, so thinks like top and trousers, top and shorts etc. The colours in this range are extended and the styles are changing slightly from cute baby to toddler. Their final range is not my favourite as it is heavily designed or as I would say 'overdesigned'. The way I would sum up this range is to say that the look of the design is what I would expect to see on clothes sold in a market but the quality is a lot better. That is probably an unfair way to describe this range of baby clothes but it is the only way I think I can help you to understand what it looks like.

The range that I have purchased for the shop has been the first two and findings as follows:

Positive

- great quality of material used on newborn baby clothes

- lovely shading of colours on their blue and pink range for babies

- really cute designs

- beautiful sets comprising of e.g. playsuit, hat, bib

- fantastic price with a lot of items coming in at £9.99 retail

So, in summary there are definitely more positives about the Zip Zap baby clothes range and well worth stocking in your shop, as long as you are selective about the range and individual clothes that you select.

Baby Boots

Well I am totally converted! By that I mean I'm converted to my suede and sheepskin boots that I bought a couple of months ago. I have not had them off my feet since I bought them - and I honestly mean that - I even wanted to wear them to bed last night! I bought the Ugg boots from ASOS as that was the only placed I could find that had the colour I wanted and size I need in stock.

I normally don't spend a huge amount on boots/shoes but I have to say I would buy these every winter - they are fabby! The only time I wouldn't wear them would be if it was chucking it down with rain as they would just soak up the water but a light rain is fine. However for children and babies I would not recommend paying for the brand name of Ugg as they are very expensive.

If you want a great pair of baby boots that are just as good as Uggs but don't have the brand name on them, then I would go for the baby sheepskin boots from Cool Sheepskin. They are genuine suede and sheepskin and look exactly like Uggs but at £15 a pair they are really affordable.

We have started stocking some of the baby boots from them and have just opted for the straightforward baby sheepskin boots in three different colours - sand, chestnut and pink.

Trendy Baby Clothes

By Tracie Murray

What classes as trendy baby clothes?

Is it the price i.e. the dearer the clothes, the trendier they are? Has it got to be from a store that everyone has heard of i.e. NEXT? Or is it that they are of good quality, reasonably priced and of styles that are modern?

I think the latter personally. All the baby clothes on offer at Streetmonkeez are exactly that! Babyface is the best brand around if you want really gorgeous trendy baby clothes that are made to last and have all the things you need on them, like adjustable waists. Everyone who comes across Babyface and buys one thing, never seems to return to another brand - it's that good!

Take a look and see for yourself.

Baby Clothes - How Much Should You Buy

By Tracie Murray

As a Mum of 3 children, I have bought many baby clothes over the years and I have made many mistakes. My article is simply my guide for what and how much I believe you should buy and need for a baby. So here goes:-

  1. Baby Vests - and plenty of them! As you change baby several times a day, you cannot get enough baby vests or as some people call them - baby bodysuits. Personally, I think 14 baby vests are a good guide to how many you should have.

  2. Babygrows - Some people refer to these as baby sleepsuits but they are the all in ones with poppers. Again, a good supply of these will be required - I would say around 10. It is much easier to put baby in and out of these then outfits which are tricky to get on baby.

  3. Baby Outfits - 3 at the most - really! When baby is out in the pram, he/she is invariably wrapped up in a coat so the outfit is pointless. The only time you put baby in an outfit is when you take him/her visiting or you know people are coming to visit you. It is a waste of money to buy many more. Saying that, choose those outfits carefully. Trendy and modern baby clothes are always a winner.

  4. Baby Socks - a weeks supply is ample - unless you have a dog like me who takes them at every opportunity and burries them in the garden! Babies socks do not really get dirty and lots of the babygrows or outfits you put baby in come with feet anyway, so few socks are required.

  5. Baby Boots - just one pair of boots are required for each stage. They do not get worn out until baby starts to crawl so it is an unnecessary expense to buy more than one. Again, choose baby boots carefully, soft, genuine baby sheepskin boots in winter that will keep babies feet warm and a very soft leather shoe for summer is ideal.

  6. Baby Hats - Now, baby hats are one of those things that frequently get left behind. A few hats is ideal. Make sure they are soft, ideally 100% cotton and varying thickness depending on the weather.

  7. Baby Coats - I would say only one is required if you are the sort of Mum that can manage to wash, dry, iron and air a coat in an evening. However, if you're like me I would require 2 coats so that one is ready for when one is in the wash. Don't go for fancy coats, simple, soft, comfy and practicle coats are all that is required.

Other than these items, there really is no need to go splashing out on hundreds of senseless baby clothes that will just sit in the cupboard and never get worn or at most, get worn once.

Original Baby Slogans

I get fed up of looking around for original baby slogan t-shirts or playsuits. Occasionally they have a good slogan tee but more often than not they just re-vamp their old one's and add a few new ones but to be honest I don't think they are that original.

This one however, when I saw it in a magazine this week did make me laugh as personally I've not seen it before - what do you think? It is from a company called Oh Baby London who I haven't heard of much yet but I'm sure it's going to be as big as No Added Sugar.

Babyface

Forget NEXT, Babyface is the new range that is really getting attention. It is similar in look to NEXT in that the style is casual and trendy but it is different!

Some of their designs are just so fabby for babies. The range of Babyface goes from newborn up to 2 years. All their material is so soft and comfortable for baby, has elasticated adjustable waist but is so trendy as well, without being too old looking.

I am definitely lucky that I dropped on this brand before anyone else in East Lothian as I will be continuing with it.

You can have a look at their collection at Babyface site.

Trendy Baby Girls Clothes

When you go to buy childrens clothes, the choice is so much that it can be confusing. So it is important to strike a balance between fashion and comfort. It is also important not to act impulsively, as they can be very expensive. It is also difficult to choose baby clothes for the reason that babies grow so quickly. Make sure you buy clothes that are a little loose, as they will have to continue to fit for the next few months if possible. Even for children like all of us there are three different kinds of clothes and they are, daytime clothes, night wear, and clothes for going out. Daytime clothing should most importantly be very comfortable, easy to access for changing nappies. They should also be in such a manner that the baby is able to move freely as usually during the day as babies tend to play. Also make sure these clothes are not too delicate a material as during this time the clothes also get soiled. Because of this, you may not want to dress your baby in the best outfits. The best clothes to wear during the day is simple body suits. The same terms apply for baby clothes for sleeping. At least in terms of comfort and accessibility for changing. If you live in a warm climate, then you can use similar clothes during the night and day. In case you live in a colder region then warm clothes are needed during the day. And during the night heavier knit pyjamas have to be used. Dressing up for going out in this kind of clothing there is scope for experimentation. Children can be dressed up to look smart and nice. This clothing generally come with a lot of straps snaps and bows. You can, dress the baby child well because they tend to have prettier clothes than boys.

Our favourite baby girls clothes are trendy, pretty, cute but functional. We find that one of the best quality baby clothes brands is Zip Zap. Their baby clothes are always superb quality, very soft and have the poppers and buttons in the right places to make it easy for changing baby. This very soft dress with leggings is a great example.

Our trendy baby girls clothes for babies aged 6 month plus come from Babyface (BFC). They seem to have a real knack for producing very trendy baby clothes and this year the sweater dress with stripe leggings is a definite winner.

Designer Baby Clothes

We are not entirely sure what the word 'designer' means when relating to designer baby clothes and designer kids clothes.

Are designer baby clothes only from a brand name that you have heard of? Are designer kids clothes only classed as such if they cost a lot? To be honest, I think the word designer is so over used in the fashion industry.

To me, the phrase designer baby clothes or designer kids clothes simply means clothes that have been carefully designed, taking time to come up with a strong image with quality fabrics. Designer Clothes to me, do not mean just expensive!

We chose a great designer baby clothes range that we feel offers superb quality but is definitely affordable. Babyface or BFC is a designer clothes range so simple but very modern, funky and trendy.

The key words describing the new BFC winter collection are modern, precocious and self- willed. The collection is composed of three delivery units, each with its own up-to-date colour design, comfortable materials and surprising elements. Let the winter begin.
