Pinkalicious by Mary Meyer

Baby Toys & Childens Toys

It's no surprise with the name of my shop but I love monkey toys. However, the faces have got to be cute or the monkey soft and I couldn't resist when I found this one as it's pink!

How cool - a monkey and its pink! It's by Mary Meyer and called Pinkalicious. There are 2 more options, Lotta Pink which is slightly bigger and little pink monkey babies!

We have all 3 versions available at Streetmonkeez - surprise, surprise!

Cool Baby Toy Box

Baby Toys

How cool is this?!!

I was surfing the web for unique or unusual baby toys and came across this really cool baby toy box - I love it!

That said, I don't love the price at £99 - ouch! Although I love it I wouldn't pay this amount for any sort of toy box even if it was made out of gold. I guess those with enough money to waste would snap this up but alas I will not!

New Range of Toys

by Tracie Murray

Here at Streetmonkeez we've just taken on a new range of toys that are suitable for both children and adults. I've mentioned before in my blogs that we only look to take on new toy ranges as and when we come across something that is unique and rarely seen in other shops.

I came across this toy range when I was looking for something small for my family. We have a tradition in our family that at tea time on Xmas day everyone gets what we call a tree present. This is always something small and more fun than anything, so this year I have been trawling websites to find something different.

This is when I came across Mad Cow Puzzles. They make a great range of logic puzzles that really are unique toys that I have not seen anywhere else. The puzzles are all logic ones where thought is definitely required. Another great thing about these toys is they are rated in terms of difficulty.

I actually can't wait until Xmas tea time to have a go at these!

Quirky Baby Toys

by Tracie Murray

If you go on the High Street, it doesn't matter whether you visit Woolworths, Toys R Us or Early Learning Centre, all the baby toys are the same. All the major retail shops seem to purchase the same toys from the same manufacturers and don't go for anything different.

I took a good look around before I bought my range of toys and found some really quirky baby toys from a company called Alex Toys.

They have some great quirky toys from their Rub a Dub range. Piggy Pigs that are different colours and dirty but when baby puts them in the bath and washes them the dirt comes off and Pirates of the Tub which include pirate stickers that stick to the tiles on the bath and little squirters. A great range if you're looking for something different.

Xmas Toys

by Tracie Murray

Well this year I am finding it a little easier to buy toys for my 3 children. The main reason is not because I am more organised this year but because my two oldest children have chosen quite expensive presents so therefore I only have to then get them a few bits and pices over and above that.

Like a lot of 14 year old boys, my son has chosen to go for the X Box. This was after a lot of thinking by him as he couldn't make his mind up between getting the X Box or going for Warhammer model kits (which are very expensive). He eventually plumped for the X Box and I think he will get more use out of this.

My 17 year old daughter who has now left home, has decided she would like a laptop and she is happy to put some money towards this. Again, I think this is a good choice, rather than some tatty fashion item, as she will definitely get a lot of use out of this.

My 3 year old is actually the problem for me. After weeks and weeks of searching around on various toy sites, I think I am more confused than when I first started! There is just so much choice for this age. I don't know about anyone else's child at that age but they don't really know what they want and if you show them an Argos brochure, they look at the pictures and point to them and say they want everything! So it is very much up to us what we get. What we did decide is we want to try and avoid the realm of plastic toys that you can get that normally fall to pieces in seconds and try and go for some more traditional toys. We feel these traditional role play or motor skill type toys will help his development a lot more but also he will enjoy them, as we used to when we were younger.

A great site I found for some of these is Jesters who sell a really great range of unusual toys that you don't find in every high street shop.

Top Ten Childrens Toys for Xmas 2008

There are many Top Ten Childrens Toys list that are always published on the run up to Xmas. Most are published by the supplier or shops themselves in the hope that you will buy from their shops.

My advice is to take no notice of these childrens toys lists and look around yourself. Avoid the High Street stores like Argos, ToysRUs and Early Learning Centre unless you know there is childs toy there that they definitely want. These shops only sell the main brand type of toys that you will find in every other shop - they rarely have anything new or unusual.

My advice is to search online putting in search queries like unusal toys or unique toys for children and then you will find the shops that sell something different and not the usual plastic toys that all the High Street stores sell. Have a look at Jesters - they have a great range of childrens toys that are unique - like tin toys and vintage wooden toys.

I would personally recommend two larger toys for your children for christmas and those would be the Wheelybug and the Kiddimoto childrens wooden bike. They are not only a toy but really help in the childs development, especially their motor skills.

Buying Toys from E-Bay

I have been looking for toys for my 3 year old on E Bay. Yes I would like to get them as cheap as possible but for some toys every toy shop is sold out of them.

However - my advice is to be very careful. As a shop retailer I had contacted a brand of toy that I though looked really good to set up selling them from my shop, only to find that the brand of toy is not authorised to be sold in the UK due to our safety regulations i.e. the CE mark that shows you it's been approved.

So, I was very surprised to find those very same toys being sold new on ebay.

My advice therefore is to be very carefull and ask sellers if their brand of toy is regulated by the safety guidelines in the UK before you buy.

Funky Alarm Clocks

We have been doing really well with the new childrens alarm clock range we now have. Despite initial concerns from my hubby, they are flying out of the shop and I have already had to re-order them.

We are currently stocking 3 designs, the monkey, the frog and the pig but they do have more designs to choose from that I may get once this second batch sell out, although I do think these are the best.

Here is the monkey alarm clock:

Unique Toys

I've just started selling a few toys in the shop. I don't have a lot of room for toys but the odd few I think compliments my clothing range.

I've gone with a company called Cuckoo Limited who sell a few ranges - Mary Meyer who sell a great range of soft toys. They aren't just normal soft toys, there's a whole range of stuff including the fabby pink monkeys! Mary Meyer also sell the Taggies Toys which are for babies and have little tags in different colours and textures on their toys to stimulate baby development.

I also buy some of their range from Alex Toys who have an amazingly large range of toys such as, bath toys, art toys, creative toys and larger furniture toys. Their bath toys are particular good as they cater for kids over 3 years, which if you have ever looked around for bath toys for this ages it is practical impossible.

Unusual Toys

When you are looking for childrens toys, what do you look for? New Toys, Safe Toys, Educational Toys? There are so many childrens toys on the market nowadays, it's difficult to know where to start.A lot of stores will just stock every toy going. Our approach to building up our range of kids toys is different! We have searched around the various brands of toys to try and find unusual toys that you do not see everywhere. We will build up this range over a period of time but only as and when we find childrens toys that are different and unusual. These are some of the toys we have decided to stock and I'm sure you will agree they are fabby and unusual and will keep your kids amused for hours.

The first one is one of our most popular toys, the Wheelybug. With great designs such as the Wheelybug Ladybird or the Wheelybug Bee, these are fun toys that are strong made, superb quality and the kids love!

One of the best kids toys we have found on the market that actually has a developmental purpose as well is the Kiddimoto kids bike. It is a bicycle with no pedals that aids the child in learning how to ride a proper bicycle by teaching him/her how to balance first. The bikes come in different designs and colours so there's one to suit all.

This bike really is a must have for any child wanting to learn to ride by themselves.

Baby Toys - Role in Child Development

Children love to play with toys, irrespective of their age and sex. As they grow older, the choice of toys changes. Usually baby girls love to play with baby dolls whereas baby boys love some adventurous toys like toy car, toy motorcycle, toy train, etc, etc...

Baby boys over 5 years of age like puzzles, board games and books. The choice of toys may vary from child to child as well, especially when they belong to different cultures and regions.

Parents cannot afford every toy for their children due to some financial restrictions. In that case a child suffers and tries to be contented with some ordinary toys.

Children of the modern era also like to play with electronic toys, like battery operated aeroplanes, which can be remotely controlled, computer games, video games, etc, etc...

Baby toys are not only good for entertainment but they are also helpful in learning and education. These toys help in mental growth of the kids. We can also check kid's natural aptitude towards any profession from the selection of toys by the kid. It also clearly shows how creative, constructive and genius a child is.

Educational games are also available in the market like educational block games, educational board games and puzzles. Baby toys help mothers, especially when their children are crying and they have to do some kitchen work. They can keep their children busy with the toys of their choice.

Kiddimoto - Childrens Bike

Kiddimotos are high quality, two-wheeled, wooden ride-on toys, designed to look uniquely similar to production and racing motorcycles. Recommended for children from 36 months to 36kgs. Not for Dads!

They are a fun and effective balance development aid for children. Entirely self-propelled by the rider, the only moving parts are the wheels and the steering. An ideal way to start riding a bicycle!

Kiddimoto helps children to learn balance, leading to cycling skills, helps them to be more aware of their actions and consequences of those actions. It will also give them confidence in their abilities which will develop in other areas of their lives. Children that develop balance at an early age also develop confidence.

Fun in the Bath!

There's nothing better than seeing your baby or child in the bath having fun with his/her bath toys!

Streetmonkeez has a great range of baby bath toys and childrens bath toys including bath squirters, pirates of the tub and dirty pigs which are brilliant!

Bath time for kids should be fun and enjoyable but it isn't always easy to find good bath toys, especially for the older child. The Stickers for the Tub from Alex Toys sold at Streetmonkeez are great and come in lots of themes, such as pirate, pals and fashion.

Children love to make a mess so the fizzy tubs bath toys are a great idea. They turn the water a different colour, depending on which fizzy tub you choose and are completely safe for you baby or childs skin.

Give you child any one of these bath toys and it'll be "splish, splash, I can't wait for a bath!"

What to Buy Your Children for Xmas

In the weeks and months leading up to Xmas, you spend your time thinking about what presents you should buy your children and a lot of the time you don't have a clue - but there are a few things you should bear in mind when buying childrens christmas presents.
Firstly, should you buy a toy for Christmas or not? Children expect to receive toys for their presents but xmas toys should be kept to a sensible amount. There is nothing worse than a toddler being bemused by all the presents he gets, only to end up playing with the wrappers they came in! When buying toys for xmas, try to vary the type of toys you buy. How about buying one type of toy from the following ranges:- This will ensure your child doesn't end up with too many of the same type of toy and get bored on Xmas day.
